Coaching

 

Depression and anxiety can become so consuming that it ends up taking over your whole life. Living with depression and anxiety you spend your life feeling overwhelmed, lost and unhappy, with no idea where to start dealing with the problem. This is where a life coach comes in. In a coaching session you are able to talk openly and honestly about what you are going through and how you are feeling. Exploring all of your thoughts and emotions, finding a clear understanding of what is going on both in your mind and body and how it is showing up in the rest of  your life.

 

In the hour-long coaching sessions you are asked to look deep within and explore what is holding you back, who you are and what you want from your life. You might think you already know this but by allowing yourself to explore deeper you will find interesting answers and a better understanding of  yourself. You will learn about how your past has formed you into who you are today and how you can learn from it to move forward. I also guide you to see the changes you want to make and that they are never as big or as scary as you think. You are most likely thinking “I don’t like change!” change is something that I talk about in the sessions because without change your life will stay the same and nothing will get better. I am here to guide you to see that change can be exciting and good for you, leading you to new adventures and achieving things you could only dream of.

 

Coaching is about guiding and supporting you. I offer ideas and techniques that have been tried and tested both by myself and by the mental health network around the world. I teach you all the skills so that you can use them on yourself for the rest of your life, making you feel in control and confident that when a new challenge appears you won't feel overwhelmed and it won’t send you back into a depression, you will feel strong enough to say “I will get through this!”. 

 

Having me as your coach offers an unbiased view of your life. You might not feel comfortable being honest with your loved ones because you want to save them from the truth of how you are really feeling, or if you are looking for support from family and friends they may not feel ok to call you out on your ownership of what is happening to you. I will say it now, the hardest lesson I learnt was the anxiety and depression I was living with was all my own doing. I always saw myself as the victim and it wasn’t until I heard someone describe our thoughts as magnets, I thought the world was happening to me not because of me. I aim to help build a positive mindset and provide you with an understanding of how you can take control of your thoughts, feelings and actions to create a better life.

 

Coaching and NLP can be a real eye opening experience. You will challenge all of the things that you think about yourself and your life. This is where you will realise the most important things about yourself and who you are, then you will be able to see throughout the sessions how much  you have changed and grown, and how you have transformed your life.

 

Once you know what is holding you back we move on to the NLP.

NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming 

​

NLP is about understanding the language you use when you are thinking about yourself, about your life and about others. We find it easier to call ourselves something hurtful rather than say something nice about ourselves. I know it seems easy to say negative things about ourselves but the fact is we are always taking in information and turning it into fact. Your words hold a lot of power and I show you how to use them to improve your way of thinking, because if you think better you are going to feel better.

 

Being open to improving your inner thoughts and language will help you transform your life from always being negative and unhappy to being able to find more positive experiences and feeling contentment in your life. This can improve things like your ability to solve a difficult situation and even help you build better connections and relationships with people. 

In these sessions I ask you to look at the value of yourself. Value is not just about money even though spending money on things like these sessions will add great value to the rest of your life, the value I want you to focus on is the value of your thoughts, actions and your time. Are you using them to benefit your life? Are you spending time on things you enjoy and make you happy? Are you focusing your efforts on having the life you always wanted? When you do things with purpose and thinking about the value you will get out you start seeing things get better. 

 

You might think you are doing a good job of hiding the struggles you are going through, thinking that if you put a mask on and pretend that everything is ok no one will know, but the truth is your friends and family are affected by your struggles with depression and anxiety. If you have kids, imagine how they will benefit from you getting the skills to deal with your mental health and showing them it is possible to overcome any challenges you face.  Maybe you don’t have kids but you have a partner or the relationship with your family can feel hard to live with because you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to be there for them when you can’t even be there for yourself.  No matter what the situation your life affects others and you might notice that it is affecting your work, maybe you are having to take time off sick because you can’t take it any more. This is where the NLP and coaching give you the skills that will ripple through all parts of your life, creating stronger connections and understanding. The sessions are more than just helping you, they are helping your whole life, and the value of this is invaluable.

 

Coaching and NLP are most famously used in sports to help athletes push themselves to bigger and better things but it has become more popular in the mental health field,  allowing people to see where they are and where they want to be and what is holding them back. NLP is also used to take a business or a career further, you can use coaching and NLP just like some of the most famous and successful entrepreneurs like Oprah Winfrey, Lily Allen, Sophie Dahl, Jimmy Carr and Russell Brand.

 

My aim is to teach as many skills to you so that when life throws you a new challenge your way, because it always will! you are prepared and focused to deal with it head on. These skills if used regularly will become second nature to you and you will find that your life becomes more positive, happier and it will give you the confidence to know that you are always in control no matter what. The life you are after is within your control but you have to make the first move, it's scary but I’ve got you. In the coaching and NLP you will see that I am the guide showing you the skills and techniques but you are the one who has to put it all into action. This is the best thing in my opinion, you are then empowering yourself to see that you control your life and how you live it. You will learn that the effort you put in is massively rewarded by letting go of the limiting thoughts and creating a valuable life full of everything you want.

The amount of sessions required is an individual thing, for some it might take 3-4 sessions and for others it could take 6-8 sessions. I want you to feel that you can come to me for coaching as long as you want. Even when you find you are happy to stop having sessions I want you to know that I am always here if you need me for future support and coaching.

Hypnotherapy

​

Hypnotherapy is an add on to the coaching and NLP, you must still do all the inner work of self reflection and making changes for they are the foundations that will allow the hypnotherapy to go deeper into your subconscious mind and fix in the changes. Hypnotherapy is being guided into the subconscious mind where your habits and behaviours are hard wired into place, with my guidance you face those situations and create a change letting go of the thing that is holding you back and creating a new thought and belief.

 

Hypnotherapy sessions are an hour and a half, it is a relaxing experience but for some in the process of facing the painful experiences it can be emotional, this is a good thing as it releases the attachment to the problem and helps you to move forward without needing to bring the depression or the anxiety into the present moment or the future.

Hypnotherapy has been around for a long time and today we mostly see it as a party trick on stage, for a light bit of entertainment. The hypnotherapy sessions are nothing like the things you will have seen in a stage show, it is sensitive work facing your darkest thoughts and emotions and transforming them into something that you can manage and eventually overcome.

 

If you decide that hypnotherapy is for you, I want you to ask yourself this question “am I open minded?” because hypnotherapy only works on people who want it to work. The mind is the most powerful thing we own and if we decide we want to change and that hypnotherapy is going to work it will transform your life. When it comes to hypnotherapy I am the guide. You are the one who has to be open to doing the work and can tell you that once you decide that you are going to make it happen you will, and it will make you so happy that you did it.

I recently embarked on a series of sessions with Rachael Hughes-Edwards to tackle issues of anxiety and claustrophobia. 

I found her to be reassuring and professional in her demeanour. She displayed a soothing manner in our sessions and I did not feel self-conscious in any way, especially given I have never tried anything like this before. 

 

We began with anxiety which I had some coping skills for but was often getting out of hand. There was quite a dramatic difference after the first session. I found that whilst certain thoughts may enter my mind, I was far more able to rationalise and dismiss them. I also am able to revisit the scenarios Rachael gave me to re-enforce the coping strategies.

We then started on my claustrophobia, although it appears to be more about the control of a space than the size of a space. I have had a few public ‘meltdown’ moments connected with this and it was encroaching into other areas of my life. We had a few sessions and on one, I asked Rachael if we could start with a practical session straight off as I felt I could succeed. It was lovely to see her true pleasure in my success, showing her investment in her clients’ wellbeing. 

I have since been in potential situations that previously I would have ‘pre’ worried about, but have in fact been confident that should an issue arise, I will be able to deal with it. I have had one or two moments when it potentially could have and definitely previously would have escalated, but I have called briefly on the structures Rachael gave me and it has turned into a fleeting glitch. 

 

I am very thankful for Rachael’s intervention and help as I felt it was going to get totally out of hand however much I was rationalising it myself. She said I did have some good coping mechanisms in place, but I needed to look behind to the causes which I think we addressed to my surprise. 

She will go on to make a very welcome and comforting difference in people’s lives.

Rachael has done for me the most beautiful bespoke recorded hypnotherapy visualisation meditation, to help me with my addiction to sugar!... if i lived nearer I would have loved to have gone to see her in person... but this is the next best thing. Her voice is so soothing and relaxing. Rachael has also really listened to my needs and tailored this visualisation perfectly to me, my personality and circumstances, I was really blown away by her attention to detail in what was quite a short brief that i gave.
